Maybe it’s the fact we’ve always kept our independence, or maybe it’s because we’re still family run – but one thing is sure – our belief in delivering the best dairy, bakery and eggs hasn’t wavered one bit.You see, we know that families around the country trust us, and our products, the way they always have, and that countless stores rely on us to make certain their shelves and chiller cabinets are filled. On time, all the time.So while we’re the first to say the finest quality produce made our name, we also know that it’s service that let’s us keep that reputation. And keeps our customers coming back.
We may be the largest independent dairy in the UK - but our production arm is set in 157 acres of Hampshire farmland – so we’ve never lost our ties to the land, the farmers who supply us, or the customers who buy our milk, cream and butter.
We started as a family business back in 1980 serving our local customers in East Berkshire from one small site. But, like all good businesses, we’ve grown and are now a major dairy with depots throughout London, the Midlands, the North, the South and Wales. So although we’ve become the fourth largest dairy company and expanded our range, we still retain the local outlook and service that made us successful in those early days. This success has allowed us to make acquisitions, to move into new markets across the country, and has put us among the fastest growing dairy companies in the UK. And while we’ve every intention of thriving - and helping our customers do the same - we’ll always remember how we got here.
We know we have to constantly invest to give customers our best service, but we also know we have a wider responsibility to our surroundings and environment. That’s why our £20 million investment in Watson’s Dairy (set in 157 acres of beautiful Hampshire) has meant treating the countryside with sympathy as well quadrupling milk output to 250 million litres. And the story is the same at our Denby Dale Dairy in Yorkshire and Blaydon Dairy in Newcastle, which will see an investment programme and lead to a threefold increase.Together, these plants complement our nineteen distribution depots across the country - giving us a comprehensive delivery network and our customers a local supplier wherever they may be.
It's our firm intention to manage our business in a way that's positive toward the environment, and that means we have to make certain promises…For instance, we promise to look for new ways to prevent pollution - and to train everyone who works here to do the same. We promise that not only will we meet all the relevant legislation, but also set our own targets - and regularly see if we match up to them. And of course we'll re-use or recycle whenever we can, keep a close eye on our carbon footprint, and always take care that any water we use is clean and safe before we return it to the environment.
